Celebrating Your Journey As A Woman & A Mama!

How many times have you looked at your experience of being a woman & wished it was different?

Being the opposite sex definitely has its advantages. But it ain’t the be all & end all of this human experience.

Being a woman is definitely an amazing opportunity to experience life in a wonderfully magical & unique way.

Yeah sure – periods, hormones, babies & stuff can be a drag, but the flip side of “having” to go through this – is “getting” to experience this.

I am the eldest of four children & the only girl!

Life wasn’t easy to say the least, for a variety of reasons, but being a girl in my house definitely didn’t help me any.

I dreamed of the day I could wake up in a boy’s body. Boys seemed to get a much better deal as far as I could tell.

I didn’t have a great example of how to be a woman & even simple things like coming to terms with my dreaded monthly event was based off of a “just deal with it” attitude, & to add insult to injury – “deal with it on your own!”.

So, I did.

And I hated every minute of becoming a woman.

The struggle was real & I felt like I had to force myself every step of the way to constantly “deal” with things I down right hated.

As I grew into a woman & got married, I realised that this thing that I hated so much, was actually a blessing.

It meant that I “got” to experience becoming a mama.

I didn’t have to do that, but rather I got to do that.

There are times that all that “women’s business stuff” is challenging & shitty to say the least. But would I change it? NOPE!

I have learned to transform the old habit of believing that being a woman was a dud deal, into the blessing of being able to experience life as a woman & all the wonderful gifts that has brought me.

Being a woman is a beautifully messy, challenging, yet rewarding journey, and one which should be celebrated every step of the way. Motherhood is a unique experience that can bring immense joy, but also challenges and difficult moments. This blog post is designed to shine a light on why it’s important to take the time to celebrate yourself as a woman through the journey of mama-hood.

Yes, it is challenging, but there reality is if you are not able to find a way to take time-out for yourself in big and small ways every day, then you are not meeting your own needs.  Parenthood can be an all-consuming experience, and it’s easy to forget about your own needs and wants. Taking time for yourself can be as simple as taking a few moments each day to meditate or take a walk, or even just spending an hour a week reading a book or watching a movie. It’s important to remember to take care of your own mental and physical health, as this ensure that you have more energy available to share with your loved ones and you will be able to give higher levels of energy to caring of your family.

Another way to celebrate yourself as a woman through the journey of mama-hood is to recognize the accomplishments you make throughout your day in both big and small ways. Every milestone, no matter how small, is a reason to celebrate. Whether it’s potty-training your toddler or sending your child off to school for the first time, completing a domestic task such as vacuuming or grocery shopping or just plain ol' making it through the day in one piece (haha),  take the time to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication you’ve put into providing for your family, supporting, nurturing and raising your children as well as meeting your own needs amongst it all (which is no small feat!).

Motherhood can be a lonely experience, often with very little recognition or acknowledgements of your efforts and achievements.  Become your own best cheer squad.  Take time to reflect on what you did in a day.  Give yourself the kindness and compassion that you deserve.  Thank yourself every day for all that you do.

Celebrating yourself as a woman through the journey of mama-hood is essential for your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Take the time to recognize your accomplishments, take care of your needs, and don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Motherhood can be a difficult and demanding journey, but it can also be a beautiful and rewarding one. Celebrate yourself and enjoy the ride!
